What to sort before a retail store cleanout

Separate sellable stock, reusable fixtures, landlord property and waste before the removal date. That first sort prevents a cleanout from becoming an ownership dispute.

Walk the sales floor and backroom separately

List freestanding shelves, counters, racks, displays and packaging by area. Photograph unusually large items so their size and attachment method can be reviewed.

Check the lease and handover list

A built-in counter or fixture may be part of the premises. Ask the property manager which pieces stay and what condition is required at handover. Do not disconnect electrical or plumbing connections as part of an ordinary junk pickup.

Plan the loading window

Keep public exits open and identify the approved service entrance. A pedestrian-heavy shopping center may set its own delivery hours; confirm the property’s actual rule.

The one-page list

Record area, item, quantity, owner, remove or retain decision, and special access note. Share the same version with the manager and removal contact.
